The story behind I Put A Spell On You

The story behind I Put A Spell On You

I put a spell on you was recorded by Angelina in 2015. It was originally written by Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins as a lovesong,  first recorded as a blues ballad in 1955, but it was not released before on a re issue of the album The Whamee.

He does not remember his most known recording from 1956, because it got life on a session with a bit to much alcohol involded.  This version got banned from radio station because it had an outrageous cannibalistic style. Rock and roll hall of fame consither his recording to be one of the songs that shaped rock and roll. This is the version Angelina covered.

It never reached the charts, but Nina Simones version was up on 23rd place on Billboard top 100 in 1964

This is just a few of the known artists which have covered this song during the years

A fun but not very well known recording was done by Tor Endresen and Silya Nymoen on a tv show on Norwegian TV2 in 2018

I put a spell on you

Because you're mine

You better stop the things you do

I tell ya I ain't lyin'

I ain't lyin'

You know I can't stand it

You're runnin' around

You know better daddy

I can't stand it 'cause you put me down

Oh no

I put a spell on you

Because you're mine

You know I love you

I love you

I love you

I love you anyhow

And I don't care if you don't want me

I'm yours right now

I put a spell on you

Because you're mine

You know I can't stand it

Your running around

You know baby daddy

I can't stand it

'Cause you put me down

Ooo I put a spell on you

Because you're mine

Because you're mine

Because you're mine

Oh yeah
